It’s Friday, I’m in Love: French Illustrator, Lucille Clerc

Lucille Clerc Portrait, french illustrator | Georgie St Clair | It's Friday I'm in Love Blog PostI stumbled upon french illustrator Lucille Clerc’s work quite recently. And it’s got the real WOW factor.

Highly detailed, packed full of detail, yet outstandingly fresh. I love the sophisticated use of colour and of course, the botanical elements and floral designs. Mainly hand-drawn and painted.

Lucille has an impressive, varied and enviable list of clients including the V&A Museum, Fortnum&Mason, M&S, Laurence King Publishers, Farrow&Ball, Winsor&Newton, even DC Comics. She works mainly within the field of editorial design and illustration but also regularly exhibits and creates installations.

One of my favourite projects and one that drew me to her work in the first place is the “Nevergreen Jaguar Shoes Collective”, an installation at REDYELLOWBLUE in London.

The idea was to explore how nature would look like, in an engineered environment.

What is particularly interesting to me was the use of technology to bring the installation to life. Something I would love to do one day with my own work.

Starting with the cell or ‘nursery’ stage, over 4 walls and over 26 meters of wallpaper, repeats and develops into fully grown botanical patterns.

Lucille collaborated with Convival Studio who created projections using 3D mapping, that modify the shapes and patterns of this botanical surreal garden.  These projections also react to sound and adapt to the time of the day, coming to life at night. Whenever a visitor is in the space, it will always look a little different.

It seems I continue to be inspired by detailed work. I recently posted about Krisjana S Williams stunningly detailed collages. Lucille’s “Symmetry of Everything” illustrations are also seriously beautifully detailed and I just love a bit of symmetry. These detailed butterflies make my heart flutter.

Then of course, anyone who combines massive floral headwear and the female form will always get my vote.

I would urge to check out Lucille’s stunning work for some botanical surreal inspiration. She also has a lovely Instagram account to browse.

And Finally…

Don’t forget I’m running a personalised botanical print giveaway. Just in time for Valentines Day. Simply sign up to my newsletter and I’ll pick a winner at random on February 1st 2017. Good luck!

Have an inspired day
