🌳 Week 5

She Grew Wings Where Wounds Once Were

Theme: Turning sorrow into strength
Emotion: From ache to alchemy — a journey through grief, rage, and release into quiet hope
Symbolism: Butterflies and blooms rise from pain, turning past wounds into beauty, growth, and gentle power.

🦋🌿 She Grew Wings Where Wounds Once Were is a hand-drawn pen and ink collage, created as part of my Secret Garden Within series. Every element, from the butterflies to the florals and flowing flourishes, is illustrated with fineliner, then carefully cut and layered using archival giclée paper. I added a crescent moon and gold halo as symbols of healing and quiet power. This piece is about transforming pain into beauty, honouring sorrow, and choosing to grow something luminous from it. For me, it’s a gentle reminder that our wounds don't weaken us; they teach us how to bloom.
