Real Life Likes

Send a real life like to a friend, relative or even a stranger using the template

Isn’t it lovely when you receive a card in the post - for example, a birthday or anniversary? One of the reasons I love birthdays and anniversaries is to send or receive (yes, I love that too) a proper handwritten card.

I can still remember the good ‘old days when we went on holiday and sent a postcard. (This would usually arrive after we’d returned home, of course, but it was always well received)! Or receiving or writing on those lovely crisp airmail envelopes when I was travelling because that was the only way of keeping in touch with friends and family. Many of these cards and letters have been saved and treasured.

“We dish out likes quickly without ever appreciating the work or the moment that has gone into the images we see.”

But how often do you save an email? Personally, I’ve never saved an email for prosperity. I have perhaps printed it out as a physical item to treasure. Still, I’m definitely not bothered about the digital version.

And do you scroll mindlessly through post after social media post, absent-mindedly clicking the like button before moving on within 3 seconds to the next post…and the next and the next?

We dish out likes quickly without ever appreciating the work or the moment that has gone into the images we see.

This creative mindfulness exercise is about swapping digital hearts and likes for a physical one. You will be giving someone a real-life ‘like’ by hand or sent via the mail service. Share a moment of genuine gratitude and appreciation that will bring a smile to both you and the recipient.

Ingredients

To make this real-life ‘like’ card, you will need:

  • a printer,

  • cardstock in your chosen colour,

  • scissors or a craft knife

  • a pen to write your message

Download Your Template

Send a real-life like to someone as a token of your appreciation.

Alternatively, download the SVG file, to use with your Cricut or Silhouette plotter.

Instructions

  1. Either print the card onto coloured paper or white paper/card and colour the card in.

  2. Print on A4 paper, at 100%. Do not ‘scale to fit’; otherwise, the card dimensions will not be accurate.

  3. Cut the card out and fold the card along the dashed lines. It helps to score these lines first very lightly with a craft knife or scissors, so they bend more easily if you use cardstock.

  4. On the inside of the real-life likes card, write a message of gratitude to someone you have interacted with recently. (See below for message suggestions.)

NB: If your printer doesn’t support cardstock, print the template onto plain paper. Then cut it out and use it as a template to draw around directly onto your card.

Real Life Like Card Suggestions

On your card write “I’m sending you a real-life ‘like’…..” and fill in the blank.

Here are some suggestions:

  • because you deserve some love and appreciation

  • for loading the dishwasher

  • because you’re fabulous

  • for bringing me a cup of tea

  • because you walked the dog when I was ill

  • for listening without judgement

  • because I want to show you how grateful I am

This creative mindfulness exercise takes a moment away from the bottomless pit of emails and the infinite scroll of social media posts.

Sending a loved one, friend or even stranger a token of appreciation, gratitude or thanks in the form of a real-life like, will be met with more joy than by clicking a heart icon or pressing a button.

I would love to see pictures of your creations. Email your images and thoughts to info@georgiestclair.com or tag me @georgiestclair on Instagram

Have an inspired day!
